Brett Kern, senor at Grand Island High School, verbally committed to University of Toledo on a full ride athletic scholarship. Kern will sign a National Letter of Intent February 4, 2004. With Toledo coming off a thrilling season, Kern is looking to make an immediate impact for the Rockets 2004 season. Kern is a 6-foot-3, 185 pound punter/kicker on Grand Island High School's football team headed by Coach Dean Santorio. In his final season, Kern was a pre-season 1 st Team All-Western New York Punter and 4 th year varsity team starter. Additional honors include All-Western New York Punter and Western New York Class 1 st Team Punter. Off the field Kern is a Scholar Athlete recipient, maintaining an overall 3.35 grade point average. Upon entering college Kern will major in Meteorology and Geography. "I'm so glad my parents invested the money to sign up with The National Collegiate Scouting Association, which is about a $95,000 success story," Kern said. "My final college selection options prior to committing to Toledo were Iowa, Kansas State, and Missouri. I had received calls from the coaches at each school who showed interest in me." NCSA assisted Kern in finding the right college fit. It is a service that ensures that student-athletes, like Kern, know what they need to do, in the classroom and on their chosen field of play to succeed at the next level.
