HONOLULU - Hawaii Athletes in Action announced it has partnered with Chevron to hold the Inaugural HAIA Football Combine on Saturday, April 21, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Aloha Stadium. They have teamed up with CYTOSPORT (Muscle Milk), SHOPO, SPARQ Trainers, U.S. Army, Education First, Island Football, National Collegiate Scouting Association, Aqua Waikiki Wave, Team 808 and Student Athlete Showcase to host the event for Hawai'i's athletes.
"Because of sheer determination, vision and love for the student athletes of Hawai'i, we are proud to be partnering with Chevron, Education First, Island Football and Team 808 to host this event," said Bulla Eastman in a release, of Hawai'i Athletes in Action. "Most parents and students are not aware of the process involved to be considered by college football programs. Having the HAIA Combine in Hawai'i is an opportunity that our young athletes have never had before."
"This combine is particularly exciting because it will allow our young athletes to be tested in various skills without having to go to the Mainland. Test results will be available to every collegiate coach and placed in the national database for further review," Lt. Governor Duke Aiona said in a release.
The HAIA Chevron Combine targets high school athletes from the classes of 2008 and 2009 and will test them in the 40-yard run, vertical jump, shuttle run and bench press (185 pounds).
"Participating athletes will be able to receive their SPARQ (Speed, Power, Agility, Reaction, Quickness) certification instantly. With their SPARQ certification, they will be able to attend NIKE football camps this summer at Stanford, Oregon, Colorado and other colleges," said Eastman.
In conjunction with the combine, parents are encouraged to attend a free "Educational Workshop on College Athletics."
"Many parents are unaware of the opportunities that are available for our student athletes and are easily overwhelmed by what needs to be done," said Eastman.
The HAIA Chevron Combine is free, but the event organizers are asking that every athlete bring a canned good or toiletry item as a donation to the Homeless Veterans of Kalaeloa.
Enrollment in the HAIA Chevron Combine is limited on a first come, first served basis. Athletes can sign up online at: www.haia808.org.
