LOWELL -- UMass Lowell is ranked second among NCAA Division II schools in the 2007 National Collegiate Scouting Association Collegiate Power Rankings, released yesterday.
The NCSA Power Rankings rate colleges and universities based on student-athlete graduation rates, academic strength and athletic prowess.
UML women and men's student-athletes maintained a 2.972 grade point average for the 2006-07 year. UML has graduated 77 percent of its student-athletes going back to the freshman class of the 2000-01 academic year.
"These rankings are different from others in that they measure both academic and athletic success of student-athletes as well as the overall academic performance of the institution," said Director of Athletics Dana Skinner. "It enforces the importance of student-athletes, coaches, faculty and staff working together to achieve excellence."
