What the Coaches are Saying...
Aug 28, 2023

“PERSONAL STANDARD We strive for competitive greatness: Perform at your best when your best is required. Your best is required each day. –Coach John Wooden. Athletes achieving competitive greatness experience a complete and total absorption in their activity and compete against their personal bests. Athletes who achieve this state of mind do not find themselves performing under pressure; they perform with poise, total self-control, and instinct. The pinnacle of my coaching philosophy is a state of mind that coaches and athletes strive to achieve everyday on and off the field. TEAM STANDARD Great teammates are selfless, mission driven individuals who put the needs of others above themselves. Secondly, great leaders must learn how to take an order before they are able to give an order. Finally, great teammates and leaders prepare everyday by embracing adversity with resolve and discipline. Competitive greatness is never achieved alone and we embrace this process of social growth. CORE VALUES Our desire to succeed can be destructive in nature. Our core values are the third tier and support healthy mental and social growth through ethical standards. Honesty: Be true to yourself and your teammates. Always hold yourself accountable for your decisions and hold your teammates accountable for their actions. Toughness: Toughness is exposed though adversity and grown by self-reflection. Selflessness: Always put the team above self. We must adjust our ‘default’ settings of self-preservation and play for each other. Passion: Behavior measured by love. Take pride in everything you do, love competition and thrive in it. Play with self-confidence, personality, and emotion. Flexibility: “Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” –Albert Einstein. We embrace change to adapt and over-come obstacles. Courage: Approach mental, social, physical, and moral challenges with resolve and discipline, and without fear of failure. WILKES LACROSSE MISSION STATEMENT We focus on what we can control and our process to achieve competitive greatness. We are great team leaders, great teammates, and prepare every day to fulfill either roll. We accept adversity as our means of growth and our shortcomings as tools for development.”

—Coach Curtis Jaques
