Personal Statement

My name is Jaxson Lucas and I would like tell you a little bit about my self. I have played and loved the game of baseball for as long as I can remember. I have played multiple positions over the years and have learned important lessons with each and every season.  I was told early on that I could not pitch, which serves as motivation and causes me to want to work harder. My proudest moment so far is being named to the Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic which I will be attending on December 27 through the 30th in Mesa Arizona . I feel I am a good fit for any team because I get along well with others and I like to learn and grow and help my teammates do the same.  I feel that hard work is a must to improve my talent and love to see my hard work pay off. I hate to lose more than I love to win. I thrive under pressure and love high pressure situations and always want the ball. The mound is my home, it is a place where the chaos of the dugout during a big moment is gone and I have control of the situation. My motto is Aim Small, Miss Small. My goals for college are to excel academically and earn a scholarship to work towards a masters in veterinary science. Also to make lots of friends, and put my self on a platform athletically where I could play at the next level. Things that make me standout from other players is I believe in working as hard in the classroom as on the field, using good judgment to make my dreams a possibility, and my desire to be the best in everything I do.  This the just the beginning of my story which will only to continue to grow, and your not going to want to miss what comes next!

  • Faced 10 batters in 3 innings of work. First batter I faced reached on a single, retired the next 9 batters including 5 strikeouts. Jaxson Lucas is a 2020 RHP/UT, 1B with a 5-11 162 lb. frame from Pelham, AL who attends Spain Park High School. Medium build and frame, athleticism, and room to continue to fill out physically and add strength. Primary right handed pitcher, third base side of the rubber start, online delivery, side step start, deliberate delivery, and threw from a lower three quarter arm slot. Landed softly on front foot with raw feel for his release point. Fastball worked 68-71 mph with short arm side life and best command coming to glove side. Pitched to contact with his fastball letting defense work. Also showed 11/5 shaped curveball on the mound with depth up to 59 mph. Changeup at 61 mph with short sink as well. Secondary first basemen, fielded the ball deep, long arm action, short footwork, and developing arm strength. At the plate, started with an even stance, high hand set, and a toe tap into a stride timing mechanism. Swung with intent through lower half with an all fields approach. Worked with a linear swing path, showing extension, and developing bat speed. Exceptional student.

  • Jaxson is a solid RHP/1B, who in his time at Pirate City, was very coachable and polite towards coaches/teammates. On the mound, he featured a high 60's to low 70's fastball with some sinking action, and a 10-4 curveball which kept hitters honest at the plate. Mechanically, he was balanced and under control throughout his simple delivery, which allowed him to pound the strike zone consistently. Offensively, he showed a good feel and control of the bat, as he worked inside the ball with a quick and simple swing which resulted in him spraying the ball to all fields. Getting his hands into a load position pre-pitch, along with keeping his balance centered throughout his swing, will help improve power to all fields. Defensively, he displayed a reliable glove, as he attacked each ground ball aggressively and squared it up to field in the center of his body. Arm was loose and accurate, as it played very well for the position. Only a 2020 graduate, Jaxson is a fine young player, who still has room to grow and improve on the diamond.

  • Jaxson continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 1B, defensive abilities are now solid as he displays smooth / athletic actions. He displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Feet are aggressive as he works through a low approach and presents glove well out front. At the plate, hitting / power potential is now solid through an open setup. Hands are quick (81 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields and shows a feel for the barrel with gap-to-gap pop. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 78 mph. Fastball showed a range of 76-78 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run and sink. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

  • Jaxson Lucas is a 2020 RHP/1B with a 6-0 185 lb. frame from Hoover, AL who attends Spain Park HS. Strong athletic build. Kenley Jansen mechanics, slow pace with drop and drive down the mound and a very open front side, low 3/4's arm slot. Fastball topped out at 78 mph, lots of arm side running action, keeps his fastball low in the zone, works mostly arm side and will have to learn to get the ball glove side. Showed changed up at 67 mph with slight wiggle and occasional sink. Right handed hitter, hits with an open stance, gets to his front side early, downhill swing plane from an upper half rotational swing, has some strength at contact, can develop as a hitter with adjustments. Very good student.
