Personal Statement
Hi, I'm Ethan Brown, 2019 LHP varsity starter from Phoenix, AZ. My baseball aspirations began early. When I was 4 my mom already had me pitching in our tiny backyard, on a dirt mound with a spray painted pitching rubber. I pitched in my first club tourney when I was 8, and I knew at that moment I had to be a pitcher. I come from a baseball family. My mom was a softball LHP/1B, a cousin pitched in the minors, and my great and great-great grandfathers pitched in the early 1900’s.
I’ve never had a doubt that being on the mound is where I belong. I am a younger 2019 and I’ve had to push myself to keep up with 2019’s who were a year+ older and a lot bigger, but that gave me determination and a solid work ethic while my body caught up. (I’m now 6’1” and just over 180 lbs.) I’ve dedicated myself to putting in the extra time, extra practice, always making time to fit in a pen, so I could be the best guy on the mound for my team. It's paid off, and I will bring that drive to be a better pitcher than my last outing to my college team.
I’m a two year varsity starter for Seton Catholic Prep, we were regional champs two years running and ranked as high as 3rd nationally. I’ve been named 2nd Team All-Region pitcher (2018), and All-Region Honorable Mention pitcher sophomore year (2017). I’m also a starting pitcher for elite underclass/upperclass club teams including Wilson Sandlot, Canyon Thunder, Padres Scout Team/Grinders, and several out-of-state teams.
My ideal college has a competitive baseball program and a strong biology department. I’m ready and willing to go anywhere in the country if it means I can keep playing ball after high school and get a solid education. I’m more interested in colleges in Arizona/California, or nearby states, but I’m also looking at Illinois/Missouri where I have a large extended family for support. Gulf Coast, East Coast and Pacific NW are also options if there is a solid engineering or marine science program.
