  • Altherr Throws Shutout as Catalina Foothills Falcons Varsity Defeats Pueblo Cole Altherr didn't allow a single run as Catalina Foothills Falcons Varsity defeated Pueblo 11-0 on Thursday. Altherr allowed just four hits and struck out Eli Simental to end the game. Catalina Foothills Falcons Varsity didn't take the lead until later in the game. Lucas Slingerland drove in one when he singled in the fifth inning. One bright spot for Pueblo was a single by Angel Faras in the first inning. Cole Altherr earned the win for Catalina Foothills Falcons Varsity. He went six innings, giving up zero runs, four hits, and striking out five. Isais Lucero took the loss for Pueblo. He threw five innings, allowing seven runs, nine hits, striking out five, and walking zero. Catalina Foothills Falcons Varsity had 13 hits in the game. Dante DeNiro, Bret Spakeen, Chris Kowalcek, and Slingerland each collected multiple hits for Catalina Foothills Falcons Varsity. Slingerland, Kowalcek, Spakeen, and DeNiro all had two hits to lead Catalina Foothills Falcons Varsity.

Catalina Foothills Falcons Varsity beat Desert View (Tucson, AZ) 6-2 Tuesday behind both the bat and the arm of Cole Altherr. Altherr led Catalina Foothills Falcons Varsity's offensive threat, as he got on base three times in the game. Altherr worked out of four tough situations for Catalina Foothills Falcons Varsity. He pitched six innings and allowed one earned run on one hit. Altherr faced his most difficult moment in the fourth inning. The game was back-and-forth heading into the seventh, with five lead changes. Catalina Foothills Falcons Varsity pulled out the win thanks to a strong seventh inning. Catalina Foothills Falcons Varsity went up for good on an RBI single by Dante DeNiro off Mendez, bringing home Lucas Slingerland. Mendez ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. He allowed six runs in seven innings, walked six and struck out two. The top of the third saw Catalina Foothills Falcons Varsity take an early lead, 1-0. A double by Bret Spakeen, plating Ethan Weiss started the inning off. Catalina Foothills Falcons Varsity never surrendered the lead after the seventh inning. The runs piled on thanks to a two-run single by Fernando Gonzalez.
