Personal Statement
My name is Gavin William Woodward. I was born June 1, 2000 in Glendora, CA. I currently attend Chino Hills High School and will be graduating May 2018.
I am the youngest of four. I have one sister and two brothers. I am very family oriented and I would not be the person I am today if it wasn’t for their constant and unwavering love and support. My brothers are much older than I am and baseball was always a bond that we shared. As far back as can remember I was playing baseball with them or carrying a ball and bat around with me wanting to be on the field with them. They continue to drive me today in many aspects.
I have played both soccer and baseball all my life. My freshman year I was fortunate enough to play both soccer and baseball for my high school. Even though I enjoyed every part of both sports it became clear that I needed to focus on one sport and there was never a question that it would be baseball.
In my first two years in high school, I was elected Captain by my coaches. What I am most proud of was that I also received a leadership award that was voted on by my teammates. I feel as if I am at my best when I am on the field with my teammates. I have tried to take the assets that I have learned over the years and help my teammates where I can and I try to learn to from them where I can.
Baseball is more than just a game to me and no matter the situation that goes on in my life; I know I always have baseball to cheer me up. It’s my escape from reality, a place where I can be and express myself without judgement. One of the many aspects that I admire about the sport is that the players aren’t just a team, but a family, a home away from home. We push and encourage each other to do our best, which in return motivates ourselves to strive for greatness
I am looking for a well-rounded college with an interactive and passionate coaching staff that will drive me to be a better and stronger player. It is also important to me that the baseball team have great comradery with integrity and where the students feel pride to be a part of it.
I am excited about the future at the possibility to play baseball in college while working toward my college degree.
