I love playing baseball and have been playing since t-ball. I have been honored to be on two league championship teams, three all-star teams and two district championship teams. My dad always told me to try my best and believe in myself. Playing baseball has taught me to work hard and respect the game. Baseball is a very fun but also a humbling game.
These past three years of high school baseball have taught me more lessons than I could have imagined. As a freshman, I was small, overlooked, and hesitant. That year on the freshmen team, I only started one game while my team went on to become Freeway League Champions. Determined to play and actually contribute to my team, I worked out every day that summer and was focused on becoming a starter the next year. As my sophomore year began, I initially didn't have a starting position. My coach was looking for someone to play catcher as our JV team was lacking one. Having never played catcher before, I saw the opportunity as a means to get into the starting lineup. Nervous at the beginning, I developed my catching skills throughout the year to become a serviceable catcher. Playing catcher allowed me to be in the starting lineup and gave me a chance to show what I could do offensively. I hit .474 and was voted by my teammates as the team's MVP. That year gave me the confidence I needed to become the player that I am today. My name suddenly stood out within the program and it showed me how seizing an opportunity could change your life.
I continue to strive for excellence and get stronger as displayed last season where I played a huge role in helping our Varsity team win its first Freeway League Title in ten years. Humbled by the awards I have recently received, I continue pursuing my goal to play baseball at the collegiate level. I apply the same dedication and hard work both on the field and in the classroom. Troy High School is a magnet school drawing hundreds of kids from all of Southern California. Troy is known for its strict academics and its rigorous courses. I look forward to going to a school with a good academic history as well as a good baseball history. In college, I want to expand my horizons by meeting people from various backgrounds and with different experiences. I also want to continue to push myself academically.
I am blessed to be from a strong family, we stick together. This past spring my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer and though I had a great baseball season, my accomplishments are minor compared to the battle she is waging. I am excited about the next chapter in my life and I know that I will be successful. I have always done my best, from the time I worked hard to get a black belt in Taekwondo to winning various academic and athletic awards. I can promise that I will give it my all both on and off the field as I strive to be the best athlete and student I can be. I commit to you that I will always try my best and believe in myself.
