Personal Statement
Baseball has been a significant part of the foundation of my life. I started playing team sports when I was four. Although soccer was the first organized sport I played, it was not long until I found baseball, which will always be the first true love of my life. When I was 6 years old, it was a desire to understand baseball stats that actually motivated me to learn to read. Having played the game since T-ball, I've been a student of baseball strategy and mechanics my whole life. On the field, I am committed to my team and accountable for my performance. Off the field I enjoy reviewing game footage and dissecting plays. I chose Sports Journalism as my major because I aspire to be around what I love for the rest of my life.
Near the end of my freshman year in high school is where I found my true self as a person and as a player. Being the youngest on the varsity team taught me a lot about resiliency. During that year, I had struggles in the batter's box... I felt I was expected to perform better than my teammates since I was the only freshman allowed to play Varsity. I learned to just play the game, and not let outside pressures overwhelm me. The experience of being a freshman on varsity helped me to accept that sometimes I am going to struggle. We lost in the championship game that year, but watching the team deal with the fear of failing to perform helped me grow as a young man. The fear I had placed on my self was no different than the fear my teammates were dealing with. These struggles helped me focus my efforts back on putting the work in to improve my game as an outfielder and hitter capable of playing at the college level.
I am blessed to be part of an outstanding baseball program at San Leandro High School. They have won an intense league in Northern California, four years in a row. This program has helped me grow by expecting a player that has leadership. I have been committed to hard work on and off the field, in the weight room, as well as in the classroom. I am not without my challenges, worries, and insecurities... I'm human. But I am not average. I am driven and I have a track record that proves it. I have dealt with diversity and adversity in a multitude of ways and now I'm ready for my shot. I am ready to prove myself on a bigger yard. I am a focused driven student athlete with a plan, a dream, and pathway to both... Once I successfully navigate the college recruiting process.
I'm looking for a program that will be a good fit for me athletically as well as academically. I believe i have the talent, the work ethic, and the leadership skills to make an impact on your program instantly. As a Junior in high school and two-time All League player I believe i have what it takes to be a leader in your program.
