Jesse Ybarra '23 Recruiting Profile

My name is Jesse Ybarra,  and I am 17 years old. I am attending Moreau Catholic High School in Hayward, CA, Class of 2023.  It has been a personal goal of mine to play at the collegiate level. My upbringing has revolved around sports, I played basketball and baseball every year since I was three years old. Through sports, I have made many friends and made lots of amazing memories. 

• Playing sports has taught me so much about myself.  It has taught me to trust people and be accountable for my own actions so my teammates can trust me. It has taught me humility and resilience. I learned that there is always room for improvement. I truly feel that my work ethic on and off the field has derived from sports. I have always had to work harder than the next guy and I'm never the first choice but I always find a way to prove myself and earn the top spot. I was voted MVP on my freshman basketball team. As much as I wanted to play a larger role on the varsity basketball team, I had to earn a spot in the rotation. I managed to become the sixth man on a championship team. For baseball, I made Varsity as a sophomore, our team won 1st place in the league. After an off-season of training and preparing for the upcoming season, I was able to earn a  starting spot at Centerfield, won 1st team All-League, Defensive player of the year, and our team was back-to-back champions.  My goal is to not only play at the collegiate level, also to make everyone on my team succeed whether its training sessions on our own time, sharing knowledge of the sports, practicing mental toughness and giving encouragement to my teammates when needed.
