Personal Statement
My name is Luis A. Mata. I play for Van Nuys High School Baseball JV team as a catcher and center fielder. I have played baseball since I was six years old. I always love the sport and enjoyed playing and becoming better throughout the years. Baseball has thought me to be persistent, consistent and perseverant. It has thought me that each game gives me the opportunity of becoming a better version of myself, not only as a player but also as a person. I am very consistent and persistent with my training and academics. This has allow me to juggle baseball, honors and advance placement classes maintaining a GPA of 3.6 or higher. I know that such determination will allow me to accomplish my goals and pursue a career in the Medical field, specifically in Neurology. I am looking at all schools big and small as long as they have available my field of interest. Even though, my parents make the necessary sacrifices to guarantee my success academically and also in the field. It would be very important and helpful if I am able to obtain a scholarship through baseball, to ease my parents’ financial stress. My goals for playing baseball in college are to have fun, enjoy the game, represent the school to the best of my ability, have a positive impact on my teammates and be a successful, competitive player in whatever division and team I end up in. Regardless, of where I am or where I go, I always give the best of myself. I always try to “deliver on the clutch,” as an athlete, student and person in everything I do.
