Personal Statement
I have loved sports for as long as I can remember. During my 17 years, I have played competitive football, basketball, baseball, wrestling, and golf. I played whatever organized sport I could and when they weren't going on, I was playing something at the gym or with friends. When it comes right down to it, I am just a competitive person and I truly love to compete. I love playing team sports and I also love the individual aspect and challenges that sports provide. The ability to challenge yourself, the feeling of pressure, and ultimately, the feeling of joy and the sense of accomplishment that comes with working hard and being successful!
I realized when I was in 7th grade that my true passion was baseball and that's where I chose to focus my efforts. I have played outfield my whole life and have pitched as well. I am very good at reading the ball off the bat, getting to a spot and setting up for a throw. I have great speed and great hands. I have every confidence that I can get to and catch every ball that comes. My speed translates to the bases and I am an aggressive yet smart base-runner. I feel that I have a very athletic and fundamentally sound swing. I can hit for power and hit for average. I can hit to both sides of the field and always come to the plate with an approach in mind. I will be starting my junior year of high school fall of 2014. I have grown in height and put on weight and gained strength each year and i know I will continue to do so over my last two years of high school. I am excited that through hard work I will only get bigger, faster, and stronger.
My parents have instilled in me the desire to succeed. They have taught me that through hard work comes success. I have pushed myself academically and athletically and will continue to do so. My Dad (who played sports in college) has always instilled in me the importance of athletics and what it means to be a student athlete. I believe that being a student athlete has taught me how to be part of a team. It has taught me to be supportive to both teammates and coaches. Coaches can be hard and can be very demanding. Team sports has taught me how to deal with discipline, how to deal with, process, and accept instances when you are being taught, criticized as well as being praised. Playing baseball at a high level can be very demanding and has taught me time management. Baseball is a unique sport in that there are so many times that you are unsuccessful. The mental aspect of baseball has taught me how to deal with adversity as well as manage success. It is truly a one of a kind game in that aspect. I am a good teammate and am very coachable and eager to learn all that I can. If I were to describe myself I would say I am very smart, I am very athletic and have a very athletic build, I have a great sense of humor, I enjoy people and friendships, I am caring, I have been raised to have good values and I am a fine young man and only plan on getting better each and every day. I try to do something to better myself each and every day.
My desire is to play baseball at the collegiate level. I want to compete as long as I can. More importantly, I want to continue my career as a student athlete. I want nothing more than the opportunity to play baseball while I pursue my academic career.
