Personal Statement

My name is Peter Nickerson, born in Seattle, WA and since 2010 I live in Louisville, CO which is 10-15 minutes away from Boulder. I was officially in the Class of 2020 at Monarch High School, highly ranked academically in the US. I am taking a gap year to work on getting stronger and am delaying college by a year and will play baseball on the Colorado Rockies Senior Fall Scout team under Coach Wayne Doland.

Until COVID-19 hit, my high school coach expected me to be the #1 pitcher for our Varisty team in 2020. We had made 5A State playoffs both years I was  on Varsity (10th and 11th grade).   The past three summers, I have played on my club team, Colorado RoughRiders U18 under Coach Chad Povich and travelled to many out-of-state tournaments at Notre Dame,  University of Tennessee, University of South Carolina, Vanderbilt and many in Colorado too.  I also joined the North East Baseball National team and have competed in out of state tournaments since January 2020.

I consistently pitch 86-88 MPH and can hit up to 89MPH routinely.  I was able to pitch at 91MPH but am now resting my arm in the off season.  I throw a 2 seam fastball, a curveball and a splitter. I am comfortable with a quick pitch and slow down my motion to throw off batters' timing.  Since I have blessed with large hands, I can throw my splitter.  I also am successful at throwing out runners at first base.  I am told I have good mound presence.

On the academic side in high school,  I took Advanced/AP classes throughout my high school years.  In my junior year I took the following classes: AP Human Geography, Advanced Chemistry,  Algebra 2,  US History,  English, American Sign Language - Level 3 and Art and earned a 4.0 my fall semester.  Senior year I am taking Advanced Physics, Pre-Calculus, English,  Advanced American Sign Language - Level 4,  Marketing, Creative Writing and Public Speaking.  I am a member of the US Chess Federation and a member of my school's Chess Club and I won two of the three tournaments that I entered in the Fall of 2018.

While I don't know what I want to study yet,  I definitely want to play baseball at a small to medium sized school with high academic standards.  I think I would be a good candidate for any team looking for  my kind of leadership skills and my willingness to help my team.  I am very excited to learn more about the college recruiting process and meet college coaches, players and in become part of a special baseball program at the next level.

- Peter Nickerson
