Baseball has been a part of my life since I was five years old. No matter how much I love this sport, I realize that it takes more than averages, homeruns and RBIs. I take pride in what I do on and off the field. I worked hard to prove myself as a freshman to earn my spots on the varsity baseball and football teams. I strive to maintain myself as an all around strong student athlete.
I take pride in my work both in my school and in my community. Part of my enjoyment of the sports I play (baseball, football and basketball) is giving back. I find inspiring and teaching the youth in my town to be very rewarding as they are the future of our school programs. It is for this reason that I volunteer an extensive amount of my free time coaching, teaching and sharing my sports skills and knowledge. For the past three summers I have been the Games Director at my local vacation bible school. As a result of the time spent helping the younger generations around me, I have been awarded the Presidential Volunteer award for the past three years.
My teammates are important to me as well. I try to inspire them by my actions, working hard in all aspects of life, trying to instill in them that we are not only representing our school when we are in uniform, but also when we are out in the classroom and community as well. As a Varsity Team Captain, during my junior year, I plan to keep these ideals the same, helping better myself, my teammates and others around me. Baseball may be a game, but the lessons learned and passed on last a lifetime.
