Personal Statement
I am Ben Talbot, high school class of 2019, a three year starting Pitcher and Captain on my varsity team at Saint Joseph High School in Trumbull, CT. I also play for my travel team, the Clubhouse in Fairfield, CT., during summer and fall. At present I am 6 ft 200 pounds. It has always been my strength to set a goal, and then achieve that goal. This past year I set a goal to become bigger and stronger physically, and since last year I have put on 20 pounds of muscle weight to achieve that goal. To improve my pitching, I have been focusing on controlling all parts of the strike zone with my fastball, in order to set up my Curve to come out of my hand looking like a fastball before dropping in for a strike. I have also worked hard to have my change-up delivery create the same arm speed while falling away from a left handed batter. I have developed superb confidence on the mound and consider myself "locked in" between the white lines. I am consistently focused on the next pitch when I am on the mound.
Since I was young, I have been diligent at devoting 100 percent of my time and effort while at practice and in the weight room. I have continued this practice in the classroom as well. At Saint Joseph High School, I am enrolled in all AP and Honors courses, and have received Presidential Honors, which requires maintaining a minimum 95 average in all classes. I have recently been honored with placement in the National Honor Society and the National English Honor Society. In my Senior year, I will again be taking multiple AP classes. I am enrolled in an after school Aeronautical Engineering course which I will continue as a Senior also. While school absorbs a great deal of time, I also find the time almost everyday of the week to be in the weight room. This constant work has allowed my fastball to jump to 88 this past summer, while also giving me a more physical stature to couple with my big hands.
My goal is to attend the college that best fits me as a player and as a person. I hope to play and pitch for a competitive team in college. I dream of using my goal to be able to graduate college with a science degree and have baseball guide me in my journey to grow as a confident and caring person and a strong player. I want to play the sport for as long as I can, using it to propel me further in life.
