I am a Student-Athlete.
The "student" part of Student-Athlete definitely comes first in my life as academics are very important to me. I am currently taking three AP classes and I still maintain a 4.34 GPA. I was not always as driven to excel in school, but I have grown to understand how important education is. In college, I am looking to major in either Economics, Mathematics or both and I am looking for a school that will challenge me academically.
The "athlete" part of Student-Athlete is also very important to me. The 2016-2017 offseason has given me a little taste of the busy schedule collegiate athletes face. Between playing Varsity basketball for my high school, lifting with a pitcher-specific trainer, working on mechanics with my pitching coach, travel ball practice, high school workouts, working at the University of Delaware Ice Arena as a service specialist, volunteering when I can, and staying on top of my school work, it is safe to say I have a hectic schedule. I have come to enjoy it all. I know from talking with college players and coaches that I should expect the same kind of schedule at the next level and, I believe I am prepared.
Here is a typical week for me this winter:
Sunday - Afternoon Shift at the Ice Arena, Travel ball practice, Homework, Pitching mechanics session at 8pm
Monday - Classes, Basketball practice, Pitching lift at night, Homework
Tuesday - Morning lift at school, Classes, Basketball Game, Homework
Wednesday - Classes, Basketball practice, Pitching lift at night, Homework
Thursday - Morning lift at school, Classes, Basketball Game, Pitching Mechanics session, Homework
Friday - Classes, Basketball practice, Crossover Symmetry band work, Travel ball batting practice
Saturday - Afternoon shift at the Ice Arena, Travel practice, Church, Night shift at the arena, Homework
I believe this schedule demonstrates that I can handle the demands of the college athlete. Thank you for taking the time to view my profile and read my statement.
