Brent Killam '16 Recruiting Profile

My name is Brent Killam and I play for the Venice Highschool baseball program which has won back to back 7A state championships, I also play for a top ranked travel ball club, The Florida Burn. My work ethic is fierce in the class room as well as on the field. I have a 4.0 GPA with a 4.67 weighted and attend Pine View High School for the gifted (currently ranked 6th for academics in the nation and 1st in the state of Florida)I intend to major in law studies and/or a business program, as these are subjects that interest me. With the academics being most important the dream of playing collegiate baseball is what drives me to succeed. I am currently 5'10" and weigh 160 lbs as a sophomore, I am a left handed pitcher and play outfield. I bat left handed and consider myself to be a contact hitter as I am able to hit to all fields.  I have been timed at the 60 yard dash at 6.8 sec by the high school coaching staff.  As a pitcher my fastball is 85 MPH constant with a top at 87 MPH with the off speed at 77 MPH.  As an outfielder my reads off the bat increase my speed to cover more of the outfield. I am looking for a school at which I can find the perfect medium between academics and athletics. 

Currently I am a volunteer at the local YMCA mentoring children with academic needs as well as physical challenges. I am also a reading mentor for elementary school children with reading disabilities and assist the teachers in classroom. I am a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and assist in the organization of getting local keynote speakers for the meetings. As a high school baseball player I enjoy returning to my local little league organization to help the young athletes in proper hitting and fielding techniques. I believe that my work ethic, character and dedication to both team and community is something that your baseball program will be proud of.
