  • 2018 NATIONAL UNDERCLASS SHOWCASE-MAIN EVENT Layton Perry is a 2021 RHP/1B/2B with a 6-0 180 lb. frame from Ponte Vedra Beach, FL who attends Episcopal HS. Medium frame with broad shoulders and beginnings of strength. Frame projects to support additional strength. Primary right handed pitcher with a simple side step to medium leg lift delivery. Stays flexed on back side at gather and works to the plate with drop and drive actions. Lands in line with front side and carries momentum well. Loose arm circle at take back and released from a three-quarters slot. Fastball came out of hand cleanly producing some downhill tilt through the zone with occasional run, topped at 79 miles per hour. Breaking ball showed 11/5 shape with solid spin and good depth in the upper 60's. Also flashed a changeup offering in the low 70's. Consistently located to the bottom quadrants of the zone and induced weak contact with each pitch. Also worked out defensively from the infield showing smooth paced footwork while surrounding the baseball. Funnels the baseball out front and worked through exchange with developing fluidity. Created accurate carry while throwing across the infield, topped at 78 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with a spread, even stance and large leg lift trigger. Works to contact with rotational lower half actions. Loose hand path to baseball with a slightly lifted barrel plane through extension. Flashed the ability to generate bat speed when throwing barrel head out front. Consistently worked to the middle of the field and pull side gap. Good student as well.

  • Official Scouting Report Tool Grade Scale Class Rating Scale RHP/3B POSITION PROJECTION 01/06/2019 - College PREP - Jacksonville, FL Layton is an athletic RHP/3B who has a bright future on the diamond. On the mound, delivery is sound, repeatable, allowing his arm action to work loose/free to the plate. Fastball shows a range of 74-77 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with late, sharp break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run. Off speed stuff show as quality pitches that will get outs. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength. In the infield, he displays clean/smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls up. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Hitting abilities will improve as he works to get stride foot down sooner to work on time. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. With 2 years to further develop, Layton has a upside on the mound with time and room to progress his game.
