July 2019Personal Statement
This past spring season I made it to the state semi-finals, and that really made me become mentally stronger by being able to taste victory and have it slip away. I have been playing baseball since the age of 8 and when I was 12 I suffered a leg injury. I missed an entire year of baseball. The injury made me comeback stronger, and now I want it more. While playing baseball I have learned that to play this game you have to be mentally strong; this is a very humbling game, one day you can go 3-3 with two home runs the next you can go 0-4 with four strikeouts.
Academically I always shoot for the stars, and I understand that getting good grades will only benefit me in the long run. This is why I take my academics just as serious as I do baseball. My overall goal is to play four years of college baseball while getting my degree. I play because I have a huge passion for the game. This is what I love doing, not only do I enjoy playing this game but in the end it will help me achieve my goal.

- Zachary Garcia is a 2020 OF/1B with a 6-1 205 lb. frame from Miami, FL who attends Miami Southridge HS. Big and strong build, athletic look. Right handed hitter, hits from a upright stance and wide base with a low hand start, rotational hitter with lift in his swing, creates some strength drive bat speed and can elevate the ball and get it to jump when squared up. 7.19 runner, has solid actions at the ball in the outfield with a strong throwing arm, works behind and through the ball well. Tapping into his power regularly will be the key to his development. Good student.

- Zachary Garcia is a 2020 OF/1B with a 6-0 195 lb. frame from Miami, FL who attends Doral Academy Charter. Medium, athletic frame with broad shoulders and present strength proportioned well throughout frame. Ran a 7.30 60-yard dash. Primary outfielder, shows footwork moving towards the ball with short and quick steps, fields the ball to side with some bend at waist, compact arm action on throws with an upright release, shows a crow hop to create momentum, can continue to incorporate additional lower half. Righthanded hitter, begins with a wide base and a high hand set and back elbow at the plate. Limited shift moving into release, lowers hands at start of swing, short swing through the zone with a linear path. Stays inside the baseball, incorporates physical strength and shows jump off the barrel when squared. Very good student.

- Zachary Garcia is a 2020 OF/1B with a 6-0 175 lb. frame from Cutler Bay, FL who attends Doral Academy Charter HS. Large frame with lean, athletic build; body projects very well moving forward. Ran 60 yard dash in 7.63 seconds. Sets up to hit from upright, even-based stance with high back elbow. Drops hands a bit into launch, gets on line drive plane with some loft towards contact, finishes high with good extension through contact. Smooth stroke with sound mechanics, projects well in terms of both hit and power tools. Worked out defensively in the outfield, shows solid footwork to and through the ball, fields cleanly out front for the most part, works through and gets off mostly accurate throws, clocked up to 74 MPH with projectable arm speed.
