Personal Statement
I started playing baseball when I was four years old and have been committed to it ever since. Over the 13 years I have played, I've found that baseball has consistently been involved in all aspects of my life, not just when I'm on the field. I've also found that in times I feel overwhelmed, or am faced with an obstacle, baseball is a tool for me to work around any obstacle I face. My sophomore year I started attending Riverside Military Academy. For the first month at RMA you are unable to communicate directly with friends and family, but luckily I was able to get through one of the hardest years of my life by using those two hours of baseball practice every day as motivation to get my work done, develop my leadership skills and be able to compete in the sport I love. Through focus and even a broken thumb, I was able to exceed and receive Honaorable Mention for the All Region Team.
Playing baseball has also introduced me to hundreds of friends that I can now consider family, and has taught me how to be a leader on and off the field. When I’m not playing baseball, I have been lucky enough to volunteer coach younger teams for multiple programs I once played for as a kid. I use the time that I coach to earn service hours in my community by mentoring young players who have the same dreams I have, and teaching them what it takes to be a baseball player at such a competitive level. Living the life of a year-round baseball player is certainly different than what normal students experience in their high school years, but I believe it has taught me to manage my time in a way that I can finish my school work, train for baseball, and play baseball all at the same time. The time-management skills I have developed are something that can be fully credited to baseball and will help me for the rest of my life. I truly believe that baseball has formed the person I am today and will continue to help me grow as a player and a person. My goal as a college player and student is to play baseball throughout my college years and contribute to a team while staying consistent on the field and in the classroom, continuing to make life long friends.
