Personal Statement

My whole life ever since I first started playing baseball at 4 years old, I always have had dreams about playing at the highest level. Every day I try to work to be the best player I can be even if it is just mentally. Pitching is my primary position that I love and my favorite part is finding ways I can get better in bullpens with my coaches. I like using the term that you can never be satisfied as an athlete. I like to think this way because every time I go out to pitch, I want to get better at something and keep improving. For most of my years I have been playing baseball year round which includes the hot summers and even sometimes the cold Novembers. A lot of people (like friends that don't play) will ask me, doesn't it get tiring at times, and don't you need a break. But my answer is always no, I just enjoy playing and being around the game. I don't know what my life would be without baseball nor do I want to know. My goal is to play at the next level in college and keep improving as an athlete and a person. I am especially proud of a few recent accomplishments. Academically, I have been on the high school honor roll for the past 2 years. In addition, I was recently named by one of the nations largest scouting organization, Perfect Game, as one of the top national baseball prospects for 2013 and on the "High Follow" list for 2013. I have successfully competed at highly competitive national baseball tournaments throughout the year. Most recently, I was ranked as a potential draft pick and/or excellent college prospect by the Perfect Game's USA's Player Ranking System. What many scouts and recruiting coaches are saying is that, “I have a good Launch Angle- or high-to-low 3 Quarter release or delivery point. And No matter the Pitch Selection, Pace and Tempo are the Same… which is hard for the batter to pick-up. Also, all 3 or 4 of my pitches come from the Exact same Release Point and perform by the Grip - most pitchers give clues to batter – either by different Arm-Slot releases or by a slight Shift in Pace or Tempo”. I'm know to work inside and outside the plate and mix speed very well. In addtion, I have a big, aggressive Stride to the Plate. * The video posted is a combination of a recent session with my pitching coach, retired MLB pitcher, Brian Moehler and general skills shots; pitiching, hitting and fielding at 3rd. You"ll see several pitches including: Change-up, 2 Seam Slider, Fast Ball, Curve Ball and Change-up/Fast Ball from same arm slot. -Zac Johnson-
