Personal Statement
My name is John Thorpe and I have been playing baseball from the time I could walk. I am a hard worker both in the classroom and on the field. I believe that God blessed me with the gift to play ball. However, I know that I have to continue to work hard every day so I will get stronger and improve my skills in order to be an asset to my team. My goal is to play competitive baseball at the collegiate level while I work hard in the classroom to earn a college degree. I understand that in order to reach my goal, I must be disciplined, stay focused and set priorities.
I do have other hobbies that I enjoy on my rest days. I like to go hunting, fishing, wake boarding, snowboarding, boating and just about anything outdoors. In July of 2015, I was fortunate to be able to go on a baseball mission trip to the Dominican Republic with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). Our group worked together to build a 20x20 home for a family of five whose existing living conditions were nothing short of unbelievable. We played baseball with local teams and we were humbled by their joy to play the game despite their living conditions. I think I gained more from the trip than I was able to give. I hope to make that baseball mission trip a regular event and my goal is to one day give back more than I receive while I’m there.
I love baseball. I know my strengths and weaknesses both in the game and within myself. I want to go as far as I possibly can playing the game I love while I get a great education and work hard to help my team reach our goals.
