Personal Statement

Aloha, my name is Gehrig Octavio,  I’m currently a multi-sport athlete at Waiakea High School and a student in the Early College Program at Hawaii Community College.  It is my goal to graduate from high school, attend a 4-year University and play collegiate baseball while pursing a degree in Political Science.

I’m a varsity starter on Waiakea’s baseball, soccer and football teams.  My parents truly believe in the value of teamwork and dedication, therefore they encouraged my participation in team sports from a very early age.  I was running around the baseball diamond from the age of three.  I may have been the smallest kid on the field but my passion for the game was bigger than I was.  Over the years, team sports especially baseball, have taught me many valuable life lessons.  I’ve learned that with heart, a positive attitude, hard work, determination, and respect for myself and others anything is possible.  I’m a very motivated and committed student on and off of the field and will always put my best foot forward to accomplish the task at hand.  I consider myself a leader and a team player who will always encourage my teammates to go the distance.  Above all, I pride myself on being a student of the game, willing to listen, take advice, and eager to try something different.  It is my sincere hope to be able to play collegiate baseball while pursuing a higher education.
