Personal Statement

As long as I can remember I have dreamed of playing baseball at the Division 1 level while securing a solid education. Every day I push myself to achieve more, get stronger, become better! I am solid leader, however my team and my team mates come first. Without each other we cannot succeed. I hope that through hard work and perseverance I will earn the privilege of playing college baseball.

Prep baseball Iowa and Perfect Game have ranked me as the #5 pitcher in the state and #7 overall as a player and am ranked 158th in position nationally. I am a two way player ( C& RHP) and am a strong consistent hitter, but my passion is on the mound.

So far I have been fortunate to have had success with baseball at the Varsity level as a starter since my freshman year and at the national level with Perfect Game Iowa Select. I am an excellent student, 6th in my class and maintain a 3.96 PA and am ranked 5th in my class. I know I have challenges ahead, nothing worthwhile ever comes easy.

My fall travel team is Perfect Game Select Iowa - Black.

Nic McCay is a 2018 RHP/C with a 6-2 180 lb. frame from Carlisle, IA who attends Carlisle HS. Large frame with long limbs and present strength. Primary right handed pitcher with a repeatable, high energy delivery. Stays balanced at gather and utilized lower half well while driving to the plate. Compact arm circle at take back and released from a three-quarters slot. Fastball jumped out of hand well producing heavy running lift in the upper 80's, topped at 90 miles per hour. Maintains arm speed well with a 12/6 curveball offering that flashed sharp, late bite to the bottom of the zone. Consistently attacked the strike zone and effectively mixed speeds. Left handed hitter with an upright, open stance and simple leg lift trigger. Simple, direct path to contact with present bat speed through extension. Shows the hand speed to aggressively turn the barrel to contact and generated very loud contact to the gaps. Excellent student. Committed to South Dakota State University. RHP 6-1 195 L/R Nic McCay is a 2018 RHP/ with a 6-1 195 lb. frame from Carlisle, IA who attends Carlisle. Large frame with a lean, athletic build. Projects for additional strength. Primary right handed pitcher with a simple, smooth paced side step to medium leg lift delivery. Stays balanced at gather and utilized lower half well while working to the plate with drop and drive actions. Clean arm circle at take back and released from a high three-quarters slot. Fastball generated heavy downhill plane through the zone with late run to glove side in the mid to upper 80's, topped at 88 miles per hour. Maintained arm speed with a curveball offering that had 11/5 shape with very tight spin and late, hard depth. Showed good feel for breaking ball with the ability to consistently spot up down in the zone. Also showed a changeup offering that had sink with fade to arm side in the low 80's. 8/6/17- 6-foot-1, 190-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. #8 ranked player in state; South Dakota State commit. Bulldog mentality on mound. Slight tuck and turn, stronger lower half, up and over delivery, with quick clean arm action. Fastball was 86-89 mph, touching 90 mph, with flashes of late life. Throws power 12/6 curveball with tight rotation and above avg. depth. Changeup is thrown with good arm speed creating late down action for strikes. Shows 2-way ability on field. 4.45 home-to-first time. Open stance, body load, clean swing plane, uses whole field, solid contact, flashes of pop in bat, 91 mph exit velocity. Quick twitch actions, above avg. blocker, plays with energy, soft hands with ability to hold pitches in zone, works slightly around plate with feet, clean exchanges, slight hitch in release, solid carry and accuracy to bag, 76 mph arm strength with 1.99-2.08 pop times.

Nic McCay  - RHP - 2018 - Carlisle, IA - USA - Named to Top Prospect Team McCay showed excellent barrel control throughout the zone. The 2018 grad also showed good leverage at contact when working to pull side. Nic McCay is a 2018 RHP/C with a 6-1 195 lb. frame from Carlisle, IA who attends Carlisle. Large frame with a strong, athletic build. Primary right handed pitched with a side step to leg lift delivery. Stays balanced at gather well and utilized lower half while driving in line to the plate. Generated very good downward plane through the zone from a high three-quarters arm slot. Fastball jumped out of hand cleanly with heavy actions to the plate in the mid to upper 80's, topped at 87 miles per hour. Showed very good feel and command for fastball with the ability to spot up and located down in the zone and to each edge of the plate. Consistently filled the zone and produced multiple swing and misses with a curveball offering that had sharp 11/5 shape. Flashed a rare changeup with a third pitched, maintained arm speed and kept down in the strike zone. Mixed all three pitches and aggressively attacking hitters. Flashed dominate stuff that projects to play very well at the next level. Left handed hitter with an upright, open stance and leg lift trigger. Shifts into contact well with linear lower half actions. Barrel comes through the zone on a level, line drive plane through extension. Present bat speed and strength when turning the barrel to contact producing very loud contact to the pull side gap. Also showed the barrel control to work the baseball to all fields as well. Very good student. Named to the 2017 Spring Top Prospect Showcase-Top Prospect List.

Nic McCay, RHP, Carlisle, 2018 6-foot-1, 205-pound right-handed pitcher. Currently #9 ranked player in IA 2018 class. Improved velocity since Future Games in August. Has tempo to delivery, arm is clean and quick out front, works fastball on steep downhill plane. Fastball was 86-88 mph for strikes in bottom of zone. Breaking ball has good velocity, is one of better in state, with high spin rate and sharp late 11/5 break. Consistently in bottom of zone with above avg. changeup, slightly firm, but thrown at fastball arm speed with good deception and fade.

On the mound Nic consistently filled the strike zone with a fastball that topped at 85 mph. Popped a 1.94 while behind the plate topping at 78 mph. Also showed a smooth, repeatable line drive swing plane with present bat speed and strength. Fastball showed varying run and sink, worked to both sides of plate, at 82-84 mph- touching 85 mph. Changeup was 72-73 mph.

Nic McCay is a 2018 RHP/C with a 6-0 185 lb. frame from Carlisle, IA who attends Carlisle HS. Large frame with a solid build. Projects from additional strength. Right handed pitcher with a quick tempo delivery with drop and drive mechanics. Creates some coil with lower half showing pocket at gather. Generates solid downhill angle with fastball that produces arm side run with sink from a high three quarters arm slot. Quick, compact arm circle at seperation with a long arrm action from the well to extension. Flashed command of the fastball to both edges ranging 80-83 mph. topping at 84mph. Curveball has 11/5 shape with solid spin and depth. Mixes and matches both pitches well with ability to pitch backwards in count when neccessary. Will release from a taller position at times reducing some of the sinking action on fastball. Hits from the left side of the plate showing an open, upright stance. Smooth look to swing with and uphill path to contact. Looks to lift the baseball gap to gap. Tends to be extended at contact during batting practice but flashed a shorter, compact path in games with an opposite field single. Tools will continue to devleop with maturity. Good follow. Scout Blogs; 2/13/2016 2:30:13 PM Nic McCay (2018 RHP, Carlisle, IA) has solid build, fastball up to 83 with good extension out front, arm works well. Does good job repeating delivery. Mixed in curveball at 11/5 with good shape. Command zone with both Fastball and Curveball and showed a developing change up. Good idea how to pitch. PG Showcase write up: Nic McCay is a 2018 RHP/C with a 5-11 175 lb. frame from Carlisle, IA who attends Carlisle HS. Mediium athletic build with good present strength. Simple tall delivery, stays on line well, arm works well from a 3/4's slot, sound mechanics to grow from. Works quickly and pounds the strike zone with his fastball, mostly straight. Soft curveball will show occasional depth but tends to drop his elbow on release, also throws his curveball for consistent strikes. Developing change up. Delivery and ability to throw strikes stand out. Shows good lateral quickness behind the plate defensively, soft hands receiving the ball and anticipates well, quick exchange and arm circle, 2.07 best pop time. Left handed hitter, short swing with good balance, has the beginnings of some bat speed, good shift into contact and gets to his front side, pull to mid field line drive contact. Solid all around player who will continue to improve. Very good student.
