Personal Statement

I am a 6'1" 195 lbs catcher from Hawthorn Woods, IL. I have started on the Lake Zurich High School Varsity Baseball and Football teams as a junior, and am beginning my senior year this fall. I have maintained honor roll status in high school. I am taking the ACT test and will post my score in Sept 2013.

Please note: I tore my ACL as a starting inside linebacker for my high school team on October 12, 2012. I had reconstructive knee surgery by Dr. Anderson on Nov. 1, and began physical therapy the next day. I completed 65 physical therapy sessions and was released for baseball on May 1 (6 months post surgery), and started (at third base) the next day. I have recovered completely, and am playing on 3 teams currently - mostly catching (including both games of double headers). No pain, swelling, limitations. I am now bigger, faster and stronger, with a renewed commitment to the game (after having to sit on the DL for most of my junior season).

I am looking for an university where I can make an early contribution to the baseball team, and yet make the transition to becoming a successful collegiate student. My preference is for a mid to larger university with a solid academic reputation, and competitive baseball program. I believe my size, strength and speed (6.73 60 yd) would fit into D1 programs, but would be happy to be considered for DII or DIII opportunities.

My motto: Strength - Honor - Wisdom

Thank you for your consideration.

Colton

  • Top Catching Prospects 1. Colton Wagner, C/3B, Lake Zurich, 2014 6-foot-2, 195-pound strong, athletic position player with plus potential. From behind the plate he throws with a short arm action, from an over the top slot, at 78 mph. He showed solid catch and throw skills posting pop times in the 2.04-2.19 range with above average carry. Offensively, he has an open stance with a leg kick trigger, and maintains balance throughout the swing. His bat path is slightly uphill, with explosive bat speed, producing an exit velocity of 96 mph off the tee. In game action he showed his power potential with a double off of above average fastball velocity. Wagner also showed above average foot speed for a catcher running a 7.02 60. One of the more impressive physical specimens in attendance Wagner shows a lot of potential behind the plate couple with the fact that he swings a strong bat from the left side.
