I am entering my senior year at Kaneland high school in Illinois. I have a 3.946 GPA out of a possible 4.0 GPA. I recently completed my 2014 baseball season. I played in 73 games as a starter, was 48-175 for a BA of .274, 75-192 for an OB of .391, 4 doubles, 44 singles, 123 outs for an SLG of .304 and an OPS of .695, 10 RBI, 13 SB with 13 BB, 3 FC, 21 K, 4 HBP, 35 FO, 58 GO, 4 singles were bunts and 10 on base were by errors. I was a three sport athlete through my sophomore year but now concentrate on football and baseball, with baseball being my favorite. I am currently starting to prepare for the upcoming football season as a wide receiver. I am also planning on attending a few baseball showcases in the coming months.
Leading up to the 2014 baseball season my evaluation numbers continued to increase and coaches wrote; Good infielder, plus defender. Good actions and handwork. Footwork impressive. Accurate thrower. Fluid and smooth. Very athletic. Open stance, short swing with high finish. Shows very good bat path in the zone. Hands work quick through the zone. Barrel control is a plus. Sets up and finishes from back side. Somebody to see to how much he improves.
In the past I have been working out on a regular basis at Finish Strong and in December 2013 I attended the 3rd Annual Midwest Elite College Baseball Camp at the Finish Strong Indoor Sportsplex, the University of Illinois at Chicago Elite Prospect Camp, the Ohio University College Coaches Skills Camp as well as the Creighton Regional Baseball Prospect ID Camp. In January 2014 I attended the Creighton Baseball 2nd Annual Pro Scout Camp, the Longshots 6th Annual Collegiate Development Drill Baseball Camp and the Northern Illinois University Baseball Winter Elite Prospect Showcase. In February I attended the Saint Joseph's College Winter Prospect Camp and the Quincy University Baseball Winter Showcase.
Since I was 5 years old I have played many sports, baseball - infield, outfield and some pitching, football - running back and as a wide receiver, basketball - point guard. In my sophomore baseball season we won conference and were undefeated with only one loss out of conference. I also played baseball for the Finish Strong Force Elite travel team from West Chicago, Illinois where we took third place at the Butler University Wood Bat Invite.
In addition to playing 2013 summer baseball for Finish Strong Force Elite and my high school, I attended the baseball, basketball and football camps offered at my high school and played in my high schools summer basketball league. I also played football for Kaneland in 2013.
During the month of August 2013 I attended the Illinois Summer DeMarini Top 96 Showcase, the Controlled Chaos Mid-West Prospects Showcase and the Indiana University Purdue University Fort Wayne Baseball Camp. These experiences were fantastic and my assessment numbers for DeMarini Top 96 were 60 Yard 7.3, Arm Velocity 76 and Exit Speed Velocity 64 and for IPFW they were 60 Yard 7.2, Arm Velocity 74 and Bat Speed 74. My DeMarini Ratings were: Hitting-Balance 3.5, Bat Speed 4.0, Power 3.0, Swing Path 3.5. Infield-Footwork 4.0, Fielding Skills 4.0, Exchange Release 4.0, Arm Strength 3.5, Accuracy 3.5. Outfield-Footwork 3.0, Fielding Skills 3.5, Exchange Release 3.0, Arm Strength 3.0, Accuracy 4.0 and was based on 5 = Exceptional, 4 = Above Average HS, 3 = Average HS, 2 = Below Average HS, 1 = Needs Improvement. I have also included a video from the DeMarini Top 96 Showcase on my profile page.
I love sports of all kinds and feel honored to be able to participate in them. I am a hard worker and a good student. I have not yet decided on a career or what college to attend but with NCSA’s help I feel as though I will be able do my best to accomplish my goal: to receive a college education while playing baseball for a college team.
Thank you for your consideration and I hope to hear from you soon, Austin Wheatley.
