Personal Statement
One of the goals I set for myself before high school was to start on the varsity baseball team as an underclassmen. The high school I attend has one of the largest student populations in the state of Illinois and a very competitive sports program. I worked hard to attain my goal of making the varsity team. Last spring, I was given the opportunity to play on the varsity team my Sophomore year.
At first, my season didn’t go as I envisioned it. I spent a majority of the time on the bench. I didn’t really know what to think of this, as I had never really been in a situation like this. However, I decided to stay positive and continue to work hard. I made sure that I was on every foul ball and caught bullpens whenever needed. I treated those bullpens as games, working hard on blocking and receiving. A little past the halfway point of the season, I was given the opportunity to start in a game, in which I did very well. From that point forward I was given more and more playing time, until I had earned the starting spot.
Through my hard work and dedication, I was able to achieve my goal of making the varsity baseball team. This hard work and dedication also carries over into my studies. I set goals for myself as a student. Certain classes have been challenging for me; however, I continued to study hard in order to raise and maintain my GPA.
My goal for college is to continue to play the sport I love and be a key member/leader of my college team. I will give 100% to my team and my studies.
