Personal Statement
When you are the sixth of 9 kids, you learn to catch the shoe being thrown at you or be hit by it. I grew up going to my older siblings baseball games and throwing balls with anyone who would put on a glove on the sidelines.
My goals in college are to explore business or mechanical architecture. I also want to tap into my full potential as a baseball player. It's a game that I accel in and if I can help my family send me to college while playing a game that I love, it's a win for both of us.
What makes me a good candidate for a team is that I have grown up in a team of 9. I have 3 brothers and 5 sisters. I had to learn to get along with all the different personalities in my family.
What sets me apart from others in character is that I have been told throughout my playing years that I am able to set the tone for my team in multiple sports. Parents have commented that I am able to keep things light in the dugout. Since baseball is such a mental game, you've got to be able to lift your teammates up with humor when they get in their heads.
What sets me apart academically is that I have a 29 on my ACT with a 34 in the science section. My grades this year are A's and B's so far. I didn't give full attention to homework in my earlier years, but I am on the right track this year.
I think what sets me apart athletically is that I am very versatile. I also play football and play multiple positions on offense and defense. I even was asked to step in as QB when the starter was out with a concussion.
Once, our highschool team lost our one and two Catchers and I stepped in to cover a few games.
I am told I think outside the box, always looking for an opportunity to steal. If the opponent walks a guy, I watch for them to drop the guard and take 3rd. If I can get on first at bat, I typically steal my way to 3rd eventually. I am always willing to dive for a ball, fair or foul to make the out. Balls that don't seem possible to catch, I grab.
I am looking forward to seeing what I am capable of at the college level with a coach and team that will push me to recognize my full potential, so that I can help my team reach theirs.
