My name is Jacob Welbes and I am a high school varsity athlete at Urbana High School. My love for baseball has lasted about 11 years since the first time I picked up a ball. The game does a lot of important things for me, such as providing a stress reliever for me when school gets rough or whatever it may be. I also enjoy going to school and learning about new things every day. I am a member of the National Honors Society. My favorite subject is Science, and I hope to further my education in Kinesiology, specifically Physical Therapy. I would like to attend a medium/big school in the Midwest/Southeast region. These are my preferences in terms of schools, but overall I am open when it comes to which college I attend. I maintain a 5.0+ GPA and am in the top 11% in my class at Urbana.
Along with academics, it is also my dream to play baseball at the collegiate level. I was able to play baseball for the varsity team as a freshman in high school and started every game. I am a two-year starter for the baseball team and I am very excited for my junior year to start. I also play for Rantoul Senior Legion Post 287 during the summer and Urbana Wood Bat League in the fall. I took on the role as a team captain this past year, my sophomore year, and was the team motivator, being there to keep my teammates heads up and to remind them that in the game of baseball, there is no rearview mirror. You have to shake off the last play and move on to the next one, due to the fact that if you think about that last error or mistake and get your head down, the ball will find you 9 times out of 10. I am always the first one on the field and the last one off, taking advantage of every little thing I can, even to the extent of playing catch or fielding some ground balls. I hope to play at the highest level of competition in college that I can and I hope to play as a freshmen at this college. My main goal when playing on a team is to make sure my teammates are involved and want to be playing, and I hope to make a huge impact on a college team someday.
