Personal Statement
Ever since I set foot on the ball diamond at the age of 5, I fell in love with the game of baseball. From the suspense that comes with every batter to rallying with my teammates to get those couple extra runs. From an early age, I've always admired the big leaguers and dreamed of being there some day. I knew that I would do everything that I possibly could to get there.
To be given a once in a lifetime chance to play baseball outside of high school means the world to me. I took every opportunity that came my way to help me further my skills. I took advice from multiple coaches and tried to put these newly developed skills to use. Being a bigger guy, I have never really been given a chance. As soon as I got an opportunity, I made the best out of it. From trying my hardest, I earned a starting position on my high school baseball team. Ever since I have had that starting role, I am constantly told by parents, teammates, and coaches that I look comfortable and that baseball is my natural talent. Some say I have the baseball savvy. I have that natural leader instinct and always have my teammates involved in the game, even while sitting in the dugout when not playing.
It is a common rule in my house that school comes before sports. This means that no matter what, I have to work hard in the classroom. I maintain a high GPA and have made the honor roll. Along with the school work and baseball, I have helped out the middle school Babe Ruth baseball team by being an assistant coach and also helped out with the town's little league baseball team by umpiring several games and giving the kids tips, pointers, and encouragement. I try to be the best role model I can be for my younger brother. He also loves the game the way I do; I am constantly giving him advice and coaching him at home (when he lets me).
I don't want to attend a college for only the athletic opportunity that I may receive, but a college that will push me in the classroom and help me prepare for the real world. It is still a big dream of mine to become a part of the MLB, but if I don't go pro with a team, I want to be involved in any way that I can. I want to get a good education that can help my achieve this dream of mine in any way possible.
