Personal Statement
It was my Freshman year of High School and the Varsity baseball coach had just spoken with me during the week before the season started, informing me of what he saw my role as that season. Due to my size, I did not expect to get off the bench, except to warm someone up to go into the game. The season opener was a double header and during the 2nd game, the relief pitcher was struggling. The Varsity coach looked at everyone in the dugout and when he saw me, he said “Meek, go warm up”. The 3rd game of the season, I was named the starting 1st baseman and occasional reliever. I did not bat much that Freshman year, but I learned a lot from my experience.
I was fortunate to have been chosen that day and I am grateful to have spent 3 years on the Varsity baseball team. Playing 3 sports, I have learned to work as a team player, helping others and accepting help to improve the team. I believe that my faith has helped keep my attitude focused on doing what I need to do as well as to have a serving mentality whether it be at church, school or with my family. I am looking to find a college that will be a good fit for me as an athlete as well as academically.
