Personal Statement
Hello! My name is Kyle Richardson, and I want to prove to you that there is more to Indiana than just corn and basketball. I play baseball, and I play it well.
For the past six years I have played on what was widely recognized as the best community-based travel baseball team in the state. We compiled a record of 275-116-2 during that time, and averaged 50 wins against 16 losses a season for the first five years. We competed against the best open-roster travel teams in Indiana, Ohio and the midwest. We traveled from Chicago to East Cobb and from Omaha to Myrtle Beach and everywhere in between to compete against the best teams around. I primarily played C and CF, but also pitched and played SS. I batted in the top four of the lineup each year, often second but also at cleanup. I could have switched teams numerous times over the years, but loyalty and friendships were more important to me than being on an open-roster team.
I am a 14 year old Freshman at Zionsville Community High School, consistently ranked as one of the top academic schools in the state. I am currently training and competing off-season to make it on to the roster of our highly talented High School team. I have already secured a position as the starting catcher for the 15U Lids Indiana Bulls White team for this coming summer. More importantly, I am an intelligent student taking honor’s courses and preparing myself to excel scholastically in College and beyond. I am a member of the National Junior Honor Society. I have seen first-hand how important it is to win in the classroom and what a difference it can make in your life after school and sports. Both of my parents finished in the top 4-8 in their respective Pharmacy schools at Butler University and The University of Kansas. I am looking for a University that is recognized as a top school in my chosen areas of academics, and a school that is highly competitive in the sport of my passion, baseball. I am not limiting myself to local and state schools. I simply want to attend College wherever the greatest opportunity and best fit for me is.
Currently, as a Freshman, my favorite classes are in the sciences; math, chemistry and biology. My major in College will be related to one or more of these areas of study. To keep America in a leadership role in the sciences, I would like to continue my education beyond a Bachelor’s degree. I play trombone in the High School band and wide-receiver on the football team. I am in Spanish III as a freshman. I am very proud to say that I surround myself with friends of high moral character who are leaders in the classroom and on the field. Many of the best athletes in my class participate in my Christian small group which is led by one of our football coaches. As a High School and College Catcher, leadership will be key in my role and I am putting myself in these positions on and off the field to be able to succeed on the field and in life. Thank you for taking the time to read my personal statement. It would be an honor and a privilege to play under you at your institute of higher learning.
