For thirteen years I have been playing the game of baseball. I have known since the age of five that I will always love the game of baseball and will continue striving to play as long as possible. When I wasn’t on the field or at practice, I was either watching baseball on the television or playing a baseball video game. Not only do I enjoy playing and watching baseball, but I thoroughly enjoy studying and learning about the game. I can say with confidence that I am a true student of the game. One thing that stands out about me is that I am extremely competitive, therefore whatever I can do to get a leg up on my competition or help my team succeed, I will do without hesitation.
I was fortunate enough to have my father coach me throughout Little League and junior high school. He was the one who taught me proper techniques, such as, how to catch and throw, as well as, several other athletic and life skills I continue to utilize today. I have always been a utility player for the team’s I have played for. I am a team player no matter the position, if asked, I am there giving my all for the team. I have my father to thank for the versatility I have as a player.
The biggest obstacle throughout my career has been my size and for that reason, I can honestly say that I was never given a position simply because of my size. I have accepted that I am a guy who will always need to work harder than my peers and teammates to be able to compete with them. I not only practice with my team, but with my coaches, my family, and on my own every chance I get. By the end of my freshman year, I finally began to grow and was no longer one of the smallest on the team. Now by my senior year, as my body continues to develop, I am seeing significant changes and gains with my skills on the field.
I have fully committed myself to this game and have gone as far as giving up all other sports to pursue my goal in playing baseball at the collegiate level. I do believe I possess the talent to compete for a collegiate program. While learning to overcome the adversity and obstacles throughout my playing career, a strong sense of ethical character and core values have been instilled in not only my athletic career, but also in my daily life. The development of my character as an individual, being held accountable, giving my all, and having a strong work ethic both on the field and in the classroom, are all the more reasons I believe I would be a great asset to any team. Thank you for your time and consideration, I look forward to speaking with you!
