Personal Statement
All I have ever known is baseball; in fact, I can’t remember the first time I picked up a ball and glove. As a middle child in a family who loves sports, the love of a game is a part of who I am; even though I love a wide verity of sports, I only have one passion, and that is the game of baseball. Regardless if I am watching on television, throwing, hitting or lifting during the off season, out in left field or on the mound, my focus is on baseball. I am looking for a college who would allow me the opportunity to play baseball while offer an academic program in sports management.
My name is Travis Dowden; I am 6’1” and 180 pound starting outfielder and left handed reliever/closer at Central High School in the state of Louisiana. I come from a supportive and loving family and I am surrounded by great friends, players and coaches and consider it a blessing to have been raised in my hometown of Central, Louisiana. As a starting senior this year, I look back at my 2 years of varsity and our 2017 5a state championship and consider that a good end to the first chapter and I am anticipating what the next chapter in my life will hold. I hope the second chapter begins with me playing as a freshman with a college who will push me and encourage me academically while giving me the opportunity to represent their school on and off the field. Even though I love my home town and the state I live in, I am adventurous enough to accept any challenge to travel and move to another state and would honorably represent their academic and sports program. Location, size and popularity of a school is not a contributing factor for me, as long as I have an opportunity to play the game of baseball.
Even though I do have academic strengths, I admit I sometimes struggle academically, but all I can promise is 100% effort in the classroom; I am dedicated, motivated and determined to succeed. I am looking for a program to work with me on my weaknesses, but give me a chance to show my strengths and get to the next level. I am ready to be a leader on and off the field. I have been recognized formy hit for average, quick reaction and strong arm, but those come second to my ownership and integrity. I understand the responsibilities that are associated with representing a program and not only do I accept the challenge, but will hold others to the same accountability.
