Getting ample playing time as an underclassmen has given me the opportunity to mature and develop at a much quicker pace than most kids my age. During my freshman season, I had high expectations for myself. Meeting some of my personal goals was exciting and promising, but when reflecting back, the most impacting moments were when mistakes were made. Feeling defeat at such a young age has influenced the player I am today. I am developing necessary leadership skills and mental toughness. Early into the season, I was concerned about being able to become a leader. I feared that as a freshman, no one would follow my lead. It did not come easy, but over the course of the season I earned respect. I honestly believe that one of the most important areas to have growth in is mental toughness. I know that I will continue to grow in the years to come. Baseball is a game where only the mentally tough players survive. Being mentally tough does not only apply on the field, but off of the field as well. A true student-athlete, which is what I consider myself, can manage multiple tasks at a time. I was thrown into the flow of things my freshman year, without really knowing to much about my surroundings. However, I was still able to maintain a 4.0 GPA throughout the entire while juggling two extremely time consuming sports. I spent many late nights studying and focusing for the game the next day. I honestly believe that two of my most promising traits are my potential and drive. It is up to me to maximize that potential. Quitting is not an option. Skill and talent will only get me so far, but I am confident that my leadership skills are enough to lead your team!
