Personal Statement

Hello, my name is Kyle Cortese and I attend Billerica Memorial High School in Billerica, MA.  Ever since I was little, sports and athletics have been passions of mine; whether it is running across a field, sprinting down a court, or sliding into a base, I loved the thrill of the game and the competition.  In three years at B.M.H.S., I have 5 Varsity Letters: Football (2), Basketball, and Baseball (2) and have been elected as captain of the football team.  With this being said, my current love is the game of baseball.  Everybody says that the sport is "too slow," or "too boring," but I strongly disagree.  With the sport comes a lot of mental focus and preparation that only baseball players understand.  That is the challenge and that is why I enjoy the game so much.  Because of the mental skills required to succeed, one can learn a lot about others as well as themselves.  Through years of playing baseball, I have learned the importance of perseverance and a never give-up attitude.  By persevering and being determined to reach your goals, I believe nothing can stop you from doing so.

These attributes so important in baseball also show importance in the classroom.  By using these traits to become a good student, I maintain a 94.7/100 (4.0) GPA while participating in honors level courses.  Along with this, I participate in DECA at my high school where I compete against other students from across the country in a state-wide and international business conference.  As a freshman, I placed 1st in the state in Principles of Business Management and Administration.  Winning this award showed me that by working hard, and being confident in yourself, I could achieve my goals.

My plans for the future contain graduating high school, attending college, where I hope to play baseball, and finally graduating college.  Neither of my parents went to college so it is a major goal of mine to be the first in my family to do so.  By persevering, working hard, and having confidence, I will ultimately reach my goals.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
