Growing up playing baseball since age 5, I have learned my strong points about my game and what I plan to achieve. By playing for many coaches and with different team mates I have become aware of my ability to keep people up and focused on the game. On almost every team I have been on my team mates and I have bonded like brothers allowing us to keep each other focused and have strong team chemistry. This past year I was the main leader on the team when it came to picking my team mates up after making an error or whatever it may be. Many coaches and my parents have also told me that I am very coach-able. I take what coaches say and I work hard to put it in to my play. By fixing my swing or playing defense, I incorporate what coaches say as fast as I can to become better. The game of baseball is a failing game. Ted Williams said “Baseball is the only field of endeavor where a man can succeed three times out of ten and be considered a good performer.” Getting out 7 out of 10 times at the plate is considered great. Throughout my past I have come to accept this. I’m not happy to get out or make an error, but when I do I come back stronger and trying harder. I don’t get emotional when making a mistake; instead I use it as motivation. Oftentimes kids will try to be the stars on teams, I just play selfless baseball and am happy to help the team in any way possible. The skills I have learned through the game I also bring into school and academics. In class I am a hard worker, but not only for myself. I work hard to help other students and the people around me. I hate to see people fail so I try my best to help them achieve. I feel helping others achieve will help me focus on my goals and maintain the person I am and have become. Working hard in baseball and in school has taught me to work hard in life and that with hard work, it is possible to achieve many things.
