Dear Coaches,
My name is Sam Finkel and I live in Rockville Maryland. I am 16 years old and I'm going to be a Junior in high school (class of 2018). I am 5'9 and weigh roughly 170 lbs. I play all three outfield positions, but centerfield is my primary position. I believe the strongest parts of my game include my outfield play as well as my speed. Not to say my offensive part of the game is weak, my bat is very solid. I batted .354 as a freshman on varsity this year, starting all 12 games. As a sophomore, I transferred to the Bullis School and started every game in either center, left, or right field. Natural talent is great to have, but it isn't the only thing that goes into being a great ball player. I belive my work ethic and academic achievement will set me apart from other recruits. I aspire to become a doctor as well as see how far baseball can take me.
Academics is very important to me and I know it is a large part of playing a college sport. This year as a freshman I have been able to achieve a 4.0 GPA. This is big accomplishment for me, and I was able to earn this through hard work in my studies. My studies always come before any athletic training, and I make sure I am prepared for the following day in school. This is something I truly take pride in, and I know this will set me apart from other recruits.
My work ethic has always been a strong trait that I am very proud of. If I set a goal there is no doubt in my mind I will achieve it. I believe this trait translates very well to baseball. Everyday I look foward to becoming a better baseball player to help my team, whether it's in the weight room, batting cage, or outfield practice, I give it 110 percent. Seeing how far baseball can take me is a great goal to have. Another goal of mine is to become a doctor. I have always been very fascinated by the human body, and I think the study of Sports Medicine would be a good fit for me. I think this goal sets me apart from other recruits.
Thank you for reading. I look forward to talking with you further about my future in baseball.
-Sam
