Personal Statement
I would really like to be able to play baseball on the Collegiate level. Given the opportunity I know that I can compete and be a key player in a college program. An Engineering Degree and playing ball are most important to me in that order. I come from a small community in Maine but, have made teams & played for teams in Puerto Rico, to travel teams, to American Legion. All the teams I have competed for a spot with players from much larger areas. Such as the Portland & Bangor Maine market areas. The teams I have played for mainly play from Bangor, ME to Boston/Quincy, MA.. When playing I would like to be a catcher and/or middle infielder. I believe I have the talents to bat at the beginning of any lineup because of my patience, swing speed, and plate awareness. It has always been a goal of mine to one day be a starter on the college baseball team, and that gives me the extra motivation to work harder and too always keep developing and honing my skills. Since I was first put into catch as a 9 year old in a Little League All-Star game, it has been come quite natural to me. The game becomes something that I can consume instead of it consuming me, and I think it is this way because I like seeing the plays from all angles, as well as being able to be the captain and take control of the team. The ability for me to always become a good leader during crucial times for my team had always distinguished me, and that is why I like playing as a middle infielder or catcher. Growing up, I was always the short stop for any local team, but as I have gone out and played with more distant teams I have been pushed to second because of the comfort the coaches had with their short stops. But this has not bothered me, because I am willing to play anywhere if need be. As far as academics have gone, I have been a hard worker. Except when I was a freshman and thought my grades would be handed to me. I soon learned that the only way to get anything was to do it myself. So because of this philosophy I have become a very hard worker at school, picking my overall GPA from an 89 to a 91 in my junior year. Lastly I would like to say that I have always been around for the local sports. I have helped with Little League, Pee Wee, and Tee Ball in my area just because I love watching other baseball players improve and yearn for more skill.
