Personal Statement

My Name is Nicholas Wheeler from Kansas City, Missouri area. I am very passionate about baseball, academics and being involved in my community.  I am active with my faith, family and do service with in my community when the opportunities are presented. I am part of the Boy Scouts of America program and have recently finished my service project for my final requirement to become an Eagle Scout. The scouting program has been part of my life for over 8 years and I have learned many life skills in the program. The most important thing I have learned from Scouting is to never give up or walk away from something knowing that you did not give 100% effort. This has carried me through life with a "go get it" attitude. This quality has given me, what I feel, the competitive edge over other athletes I go up against in sports. Even in school, competing to be the best student in each class academically is important to me. I have matured through the scouting program and it has helped shape me to be the person I am today.

My goals after high school are to play baseball at the college level and pursue a physical therapy degree.  Playing at the college level has been one of my goals from the start of my baseball career. Becoming a physical therapist came along later when I was working out at Boost Sports Performance to rehab after a sports injury.

I am a great candidate for your program because I have a strong work ethic, I listen well to instruction and I give 100% effort. I take pride in everything that I do and I wish to succeed at the next level. Statistically baseball is a game of failure just as life has hurdles and obstructions that block the path of achievements. If I make a mistake I will own up to it and look to correct the issue or improve in that area to perform better and avoid the same mistake again. I believe the way that I attack tasks at hand will set me apart from the other candidates for your team.
