Personal Statement
My name is Gabriel Pilla. I am 17 and love baseball and would like nothing more to keep improving my skills so I can play college ball--and if it works, professional ball.
I am a pitcher. I made Varsity my sophomore year (and lettered) and played on both Junior and Senior Legion. On Varsity, I went 5-0.
I'm also a dependable and good first and third baseman--my arm is extremely strong and I throw accurately.
But there are also personal reasons I would make a solid and maybe even outstanding college player. I've struggled my entire life with severe dyslexia and ADHD--in fifth grade, I could only read at the first grade level. Same with mathematics. With my mom's help, I committed to tutoring and academic coaching. I learned every which way imaginable to organize and study. I'm extremely proud that I now earn a B-plus average at a college prep Catholic High School. It's all about hard work and never giving up.
As well, I'm a very good artist. I won the photography award at my school last year and am in AP ART.
I think that everything in my life has added up to teach me how to focus, work hard and develop, and use my natural skills that are gifted. This past year I quit football to train. I got in better shape, using the 3X pitching velocity program, worked with a nutritionist who also served as a mentor to me, and I worked on my mechanics with a new pitching coach who is partnered with the nutritionist.
I have grown a lot mentally, and physically, and still have room to grow.
