Personal Statement
I have been a stand-out all-around baseball player since I began travel ball at age 8. I've excelled at every position in which my coaches have put me, and my batting average and hitting power have always gained attention. My ability to read the ball off the bat combined with my natural speed while playing center field makes me feel very confident.
My biggest accomplishment in regards to baseball was actually performed off of the field. In the early summer of 2012 I was driving an ATV and suffered potentially life-threatening injuries during a roll-over crash. I was in a burn unit, intensive care ward and spent many months in rehabilitation and physical therapy. Once I was able to begin the process of playing baseball again 18 months later, I had gained over 40 pounds of muscle, was bigger and stronger than anyone could have expected. I started out weighing a fit 150 pounds. Today, I'm a fit, fast and strong 190 pounds and am contending for school weight lifting records.
Although I've been playing primarily center field for the last 5 years, I was asked by my HS coach if I could try to switch to catcher, as the senior catcher became grade ineligible. I've worked hard at the transition from roaming the outfield to behind the dish. With some effort, I've become the starting catcher and my throw to second times are impressive, even for seasoned catchers. In looking forward to this season, I am confident that I'll be one of the west coast's strongest catchers, both in catching as well as hitting.
In conclusion, I want you to know that I'm extremely driven to working hard and I have high expectations of myself both on and off the field. The fact that my mother retired from the US Air Force after 20 years and my father was former Military Special Forces Medic and Police Officer, I fully understand what it takes to excel and set the bar for myself and teammates as I progress through my baseball career.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and I look forward to hearing from you.
Respectfully,
Adam Mitchell
