Good afternoon Coaches and staff members. My name is Nicholas Erickson and I would like to briefly tell you about my immediate goals for my future. My college aspirations are two fold. First, I will strive to be the best student I can be, as I pursue my undergraduate degree in Sports medicine or a related medical field. Secondly, I intend to pursue my dreams of becoming the best all around ball player and teammate I can possibly be, by leading by example both on and off the field. I feel I would be a strong candidate for your esteemed program, as I have the proven desire and competitive discipline to become better every time I step on the diamond or enter into the classroom.
My primary position is second base. What I like most about the middle infield positons is that players are directly involved in almost every play. The positions require agility, speed, strength and fundamental discipline. They take command of virtually every play in every game. It’s a great responsibility through the course of a game and I thrive on that. Taking the leadership role on the diamond and accepting the challenge to make a difference in the outcome of every game is why I love the position. One of my strengths is that I’ve always been a team player. I’m always willing to sacrifice for the team, and I understand how important the little things are to the game. Whether it’s laying down a bunt in a crucial game situation, taking one for the team or supporting teammates with encouragement and a positive approach in difficult situations, I’ve always been willing to do whatever it takes to win. This approach has led to a lot more success for our squad.
This past year our program has been extremely successful. 11 of our 13 seniors have committed to Division II or Junior College programs. Four of these senior commits were middle infielders. Obviously, as a extremely competitive player, it was definitely an adjustment not being in the day to day lineup. This was the case for the majority of our junior class. However, this afforded me the opportunity to take a step back and analyze all facets of the game. I feel I benefited from this as the season progressed. I became more of a student of the game, as I witnessed elevated play and athleticism, while analyzing coaching strategies from the dugout.
I've always had a very determined work ethic. My coaches feel this discipline separates me from other prospects. I play the game with a passion because I don’t like to fail. I understand the responsibility and privilege of representing my colors and my program. Whether I’m at the gym working out with teammates, working with my personal trainer getting stronger or working with my hitting instructor each week at the cages, I’m constantly working on adjustments to weaker elements of my game. I also understand how important grades are to any program. I’m representing the institution in the pursuit of my academic and athletic dreams. Knowing there is life after baseball, I have applied myself in the classroom as well. I have a 3.65 GPA in an advanced diploma program. I have been recommended by several of my teachers for National Honor Society and The National society of high school scholars. I’m on track to graduate with academic honors distinction, and I’m involved with many charitable causes as well.
I hope my video and academic profile qualifies me as a prospect for your program. I would be honored to hear from you.
Thank you, -Nicholas
