Establishing a strong team chemistry is important to me. In my second start as a varsity pitcher, I threw the first no-hitter in my school's history. The first thing I did at the end of the game was shake each of my teammates' hands and acknowledge that we, as a team, recorded the no-hitter! I strive to show confidence and command of my pitches each time I take the mound because I believe that helps to elevate my teammates' level of play. As a starting pitcher, I've also learned my role on the team is not limited to 1 or 2 quality starts each week. It's also important to bring a positive energy to the dug out when I'm not in the game and motivate my teammates.
I try to live my life so that people will remember me not just as a good student and determined baseball player but more importantly as a hard worker, who embraces a growth mindset. Many of my teachers, coaches and family members have told me that I have a positive attitude and strong work ethic. I am not one to give up easily nor allow mistakes or set-backs to negatively affect the way I carry myself on or off the field. During this past year as a varsity starting pitcher, I realized that wins build confidence but losses build character.
I come from a baseball family. My great grandfather, grandfather and uncle all played and had a passion for the game, which was passed down to my generation. My older brother is a current coach and private instructor for a travel baseball club in Tampa, Florida. Two of my cousins rose to the ranks of dominant NCAA Division 1 pitchers. One of whom, Brandon Bielak, was recently selected by the Houston Astros during the 2017 MLB draft. My goal is to follow in their footsteps. I believe having the opportunity to study business or science and play baseball at the collegiate level will allow me to further enhance my ability to successfully balance different aspects of my life. The passion and respect I have for the game of baseball, along with my strong work ethic and positive nature will have an immediate impact on your program!
