Personal Statement
For as long as I can remember, baseball has been a huge part of my life. From the time I began playing tee ball at five years old, I knew that it was going to play a vital role in transforming me not only as a player, but as a person. Growing up, my parents always taught me the importance of hard work and always doing my best. I applied these lessons and strong work ethic from a very young age, and often soon found myself rewarded with playing time and responsibility from my coaches. As the years passed, and I grew more confident both at the plate and behind the plate (I’m a catcher by trade), and saw my hard work and dedication rewarded time and again.
Sticking to my game plan of hard work and dedication that made me successful, I found myself not only growing as a player, but growing as an individual. Playing with guys who were older than I was and sometimes more talented than I was, taught me how to be a good team player, in addition to strong leadership skills. Even though some of the teams I played on were unsuccessful, there were still valuable lessons that I attained that made the experience worthwhile. Eventually, despite the fact that we weren’t winning, my attitude and work ethic ultimately earned me more playing time and the respect from my teammates and coaches. Recently, I was afforded an opportunity playing for In the Zone Knights 18U Showcase team. This past summer, we were fortunate to win the Rutgers Invitational Summer Tournament where my play contributed to a team record of 5-0; it has been the highlight of my career so far and I’m looking forward to having even more opportunities in the coming year.
In addition to the contributions I have both earned and contributed to on the field, I have taken these lessons off the field, as well and have subsequently applied them to my academic studies. As I continue to grow as a student athlete, I am looking ahead and hoping to take my career to the next level. My ultimate goal is to establish myself with a collegiate program that would be a good fit for me not only from an athletic standpoint, but from an academic standpoint as well. I believe that I not only have the talent to compete for a college team, but the character, work ethic, and leadership skills to make an immediate impact on a collegiate program.
I am looking forward to showcasing not only my talent, but my character, and certainly hope you will consider my prowess as an athlete, as well as the intangibles I will bring to your program.
