My name is Robert G. Gray. I am 6'2" and weigh 190 pounds. I have been playing baseball all of my life. Starting with T-ball, Little League and now travel ball. One of my most memorable experiences was my team's trip to Cooperstown, New York, when I was twelve. Playing on the fields and being in the barracks with just your teammates and coaches was truly a bonding experience and one I will never forget. Since as far back as I can remember, coaches have told me that I have something special being a lefty pitcher. They instilled in me how important it was for me to concentrate on my pitches, location and hitting my spots. Especially because lefty pitchers do not tend not to throw as fast as righty pitchers. So that's what I have done. I throw a 2-seam fastball, 4-seam fastball, curveball, slider and change-up. My newest pitch is a splitter which I just started to throw. I have also taken a serious interest in nutrition which will enable me to see better results from working out. This year my goal is to gear myself to becoming a dominant pitcher among the elite High School pitchers.
Most recently I was given an opportunity that most are not given. I was asked to play for an exclusive travel team called the Bronx Bombers as a pitcher. The coaches saw me pitch in a tournament at Diamond Nation, when I was with the Cadets, and they liked what they saw. They asked me to come to their facility to see me pitch in person and asked if I would like to join the team. I played the Spring, Summer and currently the Fall season with them. It was an extremely rigorous schedule beginning in June and ending the last weekend in October. It started in Georgia, Virginia, Michigan (University of Michigan), Illinois (Northwestern University) and Indiana (Notre Dame). A couple of my best games were at Perfect Game Super 25 Mid Atlantic Tournament in Vineland, New Jersey. This was against the CT Blue Thunder beating them 8-0, pitching 5.2 innings with 14 first pitch strikes and 4 strikeouts. Another was the Pastime Tournament at the University of Michigan winning the Championship game 12-2. I was also selected as a member of the Perfect Game NESQ (Northeast Super Qualifier) team.
I live in a small town, Stormville, New York which is located in Dutchess County. I attend John Jay High School in Hopewell Junction, New York, the same school Joe Panik attended. This gave me the inspiration that the small town kid can make it big. Geographically, I am interested in a college that offers the best opportunity academically as well as the most competitive baseball. I am looking forward to beginning my journey while going on college visits. I feel that I am extremely motivated in my desire to play baseball in college. I know that there is plenty of excellent baseball in all Divisions of the NCAA. I am looking for an opportunity to play for accomplished coaches that will allow me to play at a high level of competitive baseball.
Thank you for taking the time to read my personal statement. I hope that this gives you a vision of who I am and what my goals are for my future.
