Personal Statement
While I understand that many college coaches/recruiters want 85+ mph on a pitchers fastball I throw my fastball in the low 80's. That being said, I know how to "pitch" and have out-pitched many pitchers that throw harder. I know how to hit the spots. I am consistent and I work quickly which my defense and umpires appreciate. I walk very few batters.
From the stretch, my ability to hold runners on with different looks and pick-off moves works effectively which allows my catchers to throw out runners trying to steal.
My philosophy on an 0-2 pitch is to set up the batter - throw a fastball 6-8" off the plate. Because I hit the glove everyone in the park thinks it was a strike except the umpire, my catcher and I. Next I like to come back with a curve or a fastball on the inside "black" because I have him leaning.
I throw a fastball, curve, change up and splitfinger.. I experiment with different grips to keep batters off balance.
I am a very smart baseball player and I feel that my velocity will increase as I continue to grow and get stronger.
