Personal Statement

One of my earliest memories is playing catch with my dad and wanting to play on a team.  When I was 5 years old, I finally got to play tee-ball and have been in love with the game ever since.

Baseball has taught me a lot of life lessons.  When I was younger, I was always one of the shorter kids on the team and was not given as many opportunities to showcase my talent as the taller kids.  Because of this, I had to work twice as hard to prove myself to my coaches.  This helped me develop a strong work ethic which has helped me become a valuable player for all my teams.  I started to see the benefits of my hard work when at 11 years old, I was selected to play for the Town of Cary All Star Team, which went on to win the SWAC 12U State Championship, something a team from Cary, NC had never done before.  Although it was difficult at times, I am thankful for the challenges I faced because now that I am finally growing (I am currently 6’ and still growing) I realize that they are what made me into the person and player I am today.

Along with sports, I have always appreciated and valued education.  I think this is why I am a good student.  My academic goals for high school are to maintain my excellent GPA and get into a top college where I would like to major in engineering.

I am an outgoing person and get along well with my teammates and coaches.  I am a quick learner and able to adapt to change.  My parents have taught me good manners, to work hard and be willing to learn from others, to have a positive attitude, and to trust in my abilities - principles I try to apply both on and off the field.

  • Duke Baseball Elite Camp (Grades 6-9)
  • 7/15/15 to 7/18/15
  • The Duke Baseball Elite Camp is designed to give the serious player the opportunity to experience what it's like to be a Blue Devil baseball player. Live the life of a Division I baseball player in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Players will be treated like members of the Duke Baseball Team; wearing game uniform tops THAT THEY WILL KEEP AT THE END OF THE CAMP and will have access to our locker room and club house area. Players will stay in dorms on campus, eat on campus, work out in the weight room, practice at Jack Coombs Field and live like Duke Players. Players will go through actual team practices, drills, and workouts in addition to receiving video analysis of their swings and pitching mechanics. Players will also compete in games at beautiful Jack Coombs Field on the campus of Duke University.
  • Camp/Event
  • Duke Pitcher-Catcher Academy
  • 12/13/14 to 12/13/14
  • This specialized camp is for pitchers and catchers who are serious about their future in baseball. Campers will go through eight sessions of intense training during the clinic day. A routine is established for the camper that focuses on specific areas needed for success in high school, college, and professional baseball. Each camper will be working with top collegiate coaches from Duke, current Blue Devil players, and others. Each area of the academy will be tailored to specific age groups; focusing on in-depth review of each camper's individual mechanics. Video analysis will be used with each player to determine specific drills and workout routines that best fit that player's development. Roster size for the pitcher-catcher-hitter academy is extremely limited so that each camper receives a maximum amount of individual attention.

  • B Young Biometric - 8 Cylinders of Pitching
  • 1 year
  • The 8 Cylinders of Pitching was developed by Brandon Young, PT who is the owner of both NC Biomechanics and B Young Physical Therapy. Philosophy: The 8 Cylinders of Pitching takes you through the kinetic chain which is your body. Each cylinder is an opportunity to become more efficient in delivering the baseball and will help overcome pitching imperfections. When all Eight Cylinders are running as a finely tuned engine, there will be an increase in velocity and sense of ease and smoothness that helps prevent injuries. Our “8 Cylinders of Pitching” simplifies your ability to understand what needs to be done in order for your clients to receive maximum true potential. In his proprietary program, NC Biomechanics, Brandon works with baseball pitchers of all levels (from youth to professionals) to help them pitch as safely and efficiently as possible. NC Biomechanics specializes in a comprehensive 3-D Biomechanics Analysis and creating a training program that will enhance pitching performance while addressing injury prevention. Pitchers will see significant increases in their velocity and control.
