I became interested in baseball at a very young age. My dad played and has had vast experience coaching and instructing players. Both my parents love the game and have always supported and encouraged my younger brother and myself to pursue the game as far as it will take us. I started in pre-K in T-ball and have played ever since--league, travel and school teams.
Baseball has provided me with many opportunities to learn, grow, challenge myself, travel, and form friendships that I hope will last a lifetime.
Early in my high school career I admittedly was not as focused or serious about my studies as I should have been. I just finished my Junior year--I was more focused and my overall average increased greatly. This trend will not only carry through to my senior year and college but will improve as well. I'm unsure yet what I would like to study in college, but whichever field I choose to pursue, I will work hard and give my best effort to succeed.
Throughout most of my baseball career I have been the youngest on my travel and school teams. While always comfortable with my place on the roster, when the teams lacked a leader, as the youngest, being a grade or two behind my teammates, I was a little hesitant to step into that leadership role. This took some perseverance and resolve , but eventually I did step up and I think it's helped to shape who I am today.
I am comfortable at any middle infield position, and can also play outfield. I have been starting shortstop and batting leadoff for my high school varsity team since sophomore year. My unique abilities as a player are my speed and quick hands. My speed allows me to put tons of pressure on the defense, even on the most routine plays. My hands allow me to adjust to bad hops in the infield and get the ball out quickly and accurately to first. I'm a natural athlete, can pretty much play anywhere I am needed most, very teachable, have a really strong grasp of the nuances of the game, a high baseball IQ, and possess the leadership qualities necessary to lead a team in time of need, mostly by example on and off the field.
I've learned about myself through baseball--I'm very competitive, I can lead best by my example, and I like to excel at my sport. I hope to have the opportunity to continue learning, and growing and excelling at baseball and college.
